what are we gonna do. >> and the burger brouhaha at mcdonalds, why some feel the price increase is about more than money. good evening, dana king. it is a stunt straight out of "spiderman." the tonight the man who scaled a san francisco high-rise today is talking about what he was up to. here is his climb speeded up by 3000%. without warning a man known as skyscraper man began his assent of the me lynn y'all tower around 5:00 p.m. joe talked to him after he was released tonight. >> he didn't have any safety rope, just the suckings cups, climbed one of san francisco's tallest buildings. >> reporter: he calls himself skyscraper man. >> i don't know, i think it's weird. >> reporter: and for three hours he climbed the millennium tower, a condominium high-rise south of market, while a captivated and amused crowd

craned their necks below. >> he is going to try to climb the corporate ladder, it would have been fast tier. >> reporter: dan good man, who claims to have scaled the world trade center and the sears tower and other tall buildings since. some people took pictures from inside as skyscraper man slowly made his way up 60 stories. >> i popped the french champagne thinking he was the frenchman and he grinned and kept going. he is very robotic in his movements, he knows what he is doing, he has done this before obviously all over the world. i wish him the best of luck. >> reporter: around 5:15 he reached the top. firefighters helped him display the flag. he was arrested and released two hours later with a citation. >> where are you from. >> planet earth. >> reporter: he actually lives in lake tahoe. he left press releases claiming he was climbing for two reasons, first to sound an alarm that skyscrapers are still vulnerable to terrorist attack, and second to draw

attention to cancer. he claims he was working with the special forces before september 11th to somehow prevent an attack. but a diagnosis of company low rectal cancer kept him away. >> i kept waiting for them to parade these people, and that never happened, and after 9/11 i felt this tremendous guilt. >> reporter: you take this seriously, you had your causes, but what do you say to people who say look you used a lot of fire and police resources. >> first of all to address the part about, you know, limited resource, i get that. i picked that side of the building because i thought, okay, nobody is going to even see me. i was hoping that maybe i could even do it without anyone knowing. >> you were hoping to draw attention to causes. >> yeah. >> but you were hoping no one saw you as well? >> umm, well you know, when you go to do anything you have to

everything from appliances to toys on craigslist this black bar reading censored is now attracting the most attention. it's craigslist 8-letter response to this letter signed by attorneys general in 17 states. they called for the company to remove the adult services section of the site which includes thinly evaluated ads for sex. >> prostitution is not a victim less crime. human trafficking results in tragedy for children and others and craigslist voluntarily, fortunately, is doing the right thing. >> reporter: why did craigslist slap "censored" up over the link? why not take the link down. >> they probably used the word "censored" because they are trying to make a political statement. >> after all, the law sides with craigslist. according to first amendment lawyer doug mo l.a. l. >> they say that those who are simply provide agriculture bulletin board by which others can post their content is not going to be liable for the content itself.

>> reporter: that content is big business for the company. by some estimates potentially $45 million this year. craigslist is no stranger to controversy. the 0 so-called craigslist killer allegedly found his victims by trolling through sex ads on the site. as craigslist shut down adult services the ads my great elsewhere. >> reporter: and a quick search reveals that some ads are still on the site. here in the beauty section, an offer for sexual massage. craigslist didn't reply to a list but they wrote that craigslist is committed to aggressively combating violent crime. the question remains will removing this link really combat anything at all. seth stone, cbs news, new york. former hewlett packard ceo mark hurd has a new gig at oracle. he'll be the software giant's could president and a member of the board. hurd resigned with a

multimillion-dollar golden parachute from high pressure in the wake of a sexual harassment investigation. oracle ceo laurie as man came to his defense at the time. he'll replace charles phillips whose resignation was tendered today. officers walked the streets of hayward with guns drawn. authorities setup a perimeter between first, second, c and d streets, to look for a passenger who fled the car following the police chase. he still hasn't been caught even though police also launched two helicopters to help in that search. they did catch the driver. the chp says this all started when the driver ignorede requests to pull over and sped off. they say the driver hit some cars during that pursuit. a sunnyvale college student who already has an awful lot on her plate is, tonight, looking for a new place to live. her house burned in a fire over the weekend and it's not just

herself she has to worry about. kiet do shows us the 23-year- old is raising her brother and sister on her own. . >> reporter: for the past year this home this sonningdale was the normal life. >> it was a safe haven for us. my brother and sister, this is the only stable home they ever new. >> reporter: the cause is still under investigation but saturday afternoon they say the blaze started in the kitchen and quickly burned out of control. sue you rick and her family lost nearly everything. the 22-year-old says they have never had it easy. friends and family say sue should be the last family to deal with a problem like this. a year ago a judge granted her custody of her two younger teenaged siblings, that's because she says her mother wasn't much of a mother at all. >> i have to step up and take care have the kids, i have to be the strong foundation for them, without that they are not -- they are going to grow up

disadvantaged if they don't see someone stable, taking care of what needs to be taken care of. >> reporter: with her motorhome less and filing drug addiction she took her 15-year-old brother and 16-year-old sister out of foster care. she put them in schools and life was as normal as could be for this college student raising two teenagers. for now they live out of a nearby motel with permanent items they managed to salvage. >> our family is everything, material things can be replaced, but our family is what's going to keep us and get us through this. my family is going to get me through the hardest situations, my family is going to be the ones that is there for me when i need them. >> reporter: sue says it will take a while to get back on her feet but it will not be the first time her family will rise from the ashes. >> reporter: a fund has been settle up for sue at chase bank. you can make donations at any

branch to the sue fire fund. checking bay headlines, a fourth straight day of searching a pittsburgh landfill for a missing man has turned up nothing. 35-year-old frederick sales hasn't been seen since his father was found murdered in the hercules home he rented from the girlfriend of efren valdemoro, he is suspected of killing the elderly sales, his girlfriend and two vallejo women. police killed him after a high speed chase. the search at the landfill resumes tomorrow. police say a man found dead behind a newark office building today may have been shot last night. police heard gunfire when they were called to break up a crowd of 400 people following a pool party at a nearby hotel. they didn't find any victims at the time but this morning they found 26-year-old julius hughes dead. two men could face criminal charges for an oil spill in the petaluma marina. firefighters say 100 gallons of oil spilled when the men cut

open the hull of an old boat they were trying to scrap. cruz contained most of the oil but the two men will have to pay a private company to do the rest. a memorial in martinez marked the second anniversary of the shooting of paul starzik. he responded to a domestic dispute call two years ago, he burst into a beauty parlor and started shooting. he shot him before he died. how a boy found himself stranded in the middle of a river. the dollar menu balloons at one bay area mcdonalds, why some say it's not just the price but the politics that are tough to swallow. >> you didn't come here to shop? >> no, not today. wanted to say good-bye. >> a sad fair well for a supermarket. why shoppers complain it is a sign of the times. >> what happened here in the

jose teen, swept away by a . tonight we're getting a look at the dramatic rescue of hasan jose teen swept away by a strong river current. the 19-year-old was with friends in the concern river when the water overtook him yesterday. he got stuck on a rock and rescue crews first tried to reach him by boat but later decided to pluck him out of the water with a helicopter. an ambulance was waiting for him when he reached land but he refused medical aid. there may be no such thing as a free lunch. still, you'll find some pretty cheap eats under the golden arches. but, now, one bay area mcdonalds is doing away with its dollar menu and mike sugerman shows us some customers really are not loving it. there is a mcflurry of activity in san francisco's haight-ashbury which to some

makes sense. 50 cents in fact. >> i don't really want to pay it if i don't have to. could use that dollar so -- >> reporter: was it the hamburgler who stole the famous dollar menu from this one particular store. it's gone. you want a mcdouble? not down the price but now $1.50. >> i don't eat that stuff anyway. on the wall in there it says if you eat that stuff you get cancer. >> reporter: we couldn't find such a sign and for that gentleman to be sitting where he was at the corner of standing and haight he would have had to buy something. >> the day they took out the dollar menu they shut the bathrooms down, we were like why, are they really trying to kick out the homeless. no dollar menu, no bathrooms, what are we going to do. >> reporter: the tension here has been as thick as a triple thick shape. some think the end of dollar days is an attempt by the owner to make the place less attractive to those without an address.

>> i'll go buy food, they will be like you need to leave, i bought my food here, i'm going to stay here and eat it. and they get so mad. >> some homeless people say that extra 50 cents is too much for them. in a statement to cbs5 nat he gonzalez says "speculation as to why i no longer offer menu items for $1 in this location is absolutely false. this was a business decision based on a number of contributing factors." so does the $1.50 rays aimed at the homeless. >> they can get the money, they can get the 50 cents extra, nobody complained. and you can still get a regular hamburger here for 99 cents, but that's not filling enough say some of the homeless. this all comes with the backdrop of the cyst/lie ordinance which would make it good for the homeless to sit or lie in this neighborhood. anything having to do with the homeless is intensified in this neighborhood. in san francisco mike sugerman,
